Boston Medical Spanish Center
an initiative of the AES World Languages and Cultures Institute 501(c)3
Medical Spanish classes and programming for all of Boston's healthcare professionals
Am I eligible?
All current and future healthcare professionals are eligible to participate in the program, regardless of current affiliation. The only common restriction is language proficiency.

What if I have to miss a class?
Students are expected to attend all sessions. Should you need to miss part or all of a session, please contact us.

How do I know if my Spanish proficiency is adequate for my workshop?
A placement interview conducted over the phone will determine this.

Can I get Continuing Education credit for this program?
This program is likely eligible for Continuing Education (CE) credits through your employer or self-reporting, as our course aims and objectives align with CE requirements for a range of professions that include educational activities that serve to maintain, develop, or increase the knowledge, skills, and professional performance and relationships a healthcare professional uses to provide services for patients, the public, or the profession. Please contact us or your employer for more information.

What workshops do you offer?
Currently, we offer six workshops for specialists who work in a variety of fields, including prenatal, birth, and postpartum care, sports medicine, addition medicine, community screenings, pain management, and acute care. Additional workshops will be offered in 2026.

What is the refund policy?
All enrollment fees are refundable up to 4 weeks before the start of a workshop. Email us at medicalspanish@awlci.org for more information or to request a refund.

Do we have to do any work outside of class?
Yes. Guided independent work will be assigned one week prior to the start of the workshop, after the first workshop session, and after the second session. We have designed the guided independent work to take a total of approximately 5 hours, but this may differ from student to student. The more time and effort you put into the workshop, the more benefit you will derive from it.

Do I need to purchase any books or materials?
All materials will be provided by the instructors.
How big are the classes?
Students will spend most of their time working in small breakout rooms with approximately 3 other students.

What happens if I don't place into a class, or my class gets cancelled for some reason?
You can transfer your payment to the next relevant workshop or you can get a full refund.

What's the difference between these Workshops and a Medical Spanish Course?
These Workshops target only specific topics and each workshop has a minimum Spanish proficiency requirement usually ranging from Intermediate (I2) through Advanced (A1) or higher. The regular Medical Spanish Courses teach Spanish within a medical context. In the Courses you are placed into a class that is right for your Spanish proficiency and there will likely be students with various specialties in your class.

Where can I find more information about the workshop policies?
Please visit the Program Policies page for detailed information regarding transfers, waitlists, refunds, and more.
